French Polynesia has established some of the strictest regulations to protect the whales, ensuring minimal stress during interactions. Boats maintain a safe distance of 100 meters, while swimmers must stay at least 30 meters away, making each encounter both safe and respectful.

Only snorkeling is allowed to ensure a tranquil experience for the whales, as they are sensitive to scuba bubbles. Often, you will find mothers resting below while calves play on the surface.
